Veterinary donations needed for Havana-bound container
Dick White Referrals is calling on the profession for donations of equipment and consumables – which will help stray dogs and cats in Cuba's capital – to fill the container before it departs mid-March.
A charitable container heading for Cuba needs to be filled with veterinary equipment and consumables before it sets sail mid-March (2013).
For the past three years, staff from Cambridgeshire-based Dick White Referrals have been travelling to Havana with suitcases full of donations for Aniplant, a not-for-profit charity dedicated to the protection of stray dogs and cats in the country's capital.
However, this year, the donation of two anaesthetic machines from veterinary equipment supplier Coltronics has meant the practice has had to upgrade its transportation methods. Cargo liner agent Kestrel has come to the rescue and generously offered to ship a container to the South American country for the practice's cause.
The challenge now, however, is to fill the container before it departs.
Dick White Referrals' Jan Wade told Vetsonline: "We are looking for a few major items, including an operating table and theatre lights, but any other donations which could be put to use in Cuba will be welcome.
"Our veterinary colleagues in Cuba are extremely talented individuals working in very difficult circumstances. Please help us to make life a little easier for them and their patients."
- If you have equipment and/or consumables which you would be willing to donate, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Donations have to be sent to North Weald airfield in Essex for loading.
